Staff and volunteers of Lisaard & Innisfree Hospice acknowledge our presence as guests on the land where our hospices are located. We are grateful to work on the traditional territories of the Anishinaabeg, Haudenosaunee, and Attawandaron who have been living and working on the land.
As a first step, we seek to understand the longstanding history that has brought us to reside on the land. We encourage all settlers and other non-Indigenous peoples living and working on this land, to learn more about the historical injustices and ongoing impacts of colonization which Indigenous Peoples continue to experience today.
Acknowledging the land is an expression of gratitude and recognizes the gifts and beauty of Indigenous Peoples. As an organization, there is a commitment to be an active participant towards reconciliation by educating staff and volunteers of the continued harm that Indigenous Peoples continue to experience. Through the engagement of meaningful consultation and partnerships with Indigenous communities, Lisaard & Innisfree Hospice will develop programs and services which both respect and honour the traditions and ways of Indigenous Peoples.
Lisaard & Innisfree Hospice is Waterloo Region’s first and largest hospice residence, providing exceptional palliative care in a home-like setting for individuals living with - and dying from - a terminal illness
