We’re celebrating Social Work Week March 2-8, and we’re thankful for the dedication & compassion of our Social Workers Heather and Sylwia, and our Social Work student Jocelyn. Together, this crew provides expert, important support for our residents and families, as well as our bereavement and memorial programs and services.
Our Social Workers are an important part of our care team, supporting and counselling residents and families during their time with us, and beyond through bereavement.
Our Social Work Team looks at the bigger picture of each resident to help provide whole-person care, finding out any preferences, concerns, or needs to help ensure their comfort and dignity. Our Social Work team will also connect individuals with additional community resources where appropriate.
“It’s a privilege to support people through the most challenging and difficult time in their lives,” remarks Heather MacCuaig, “Being a Social Worker in hospice allows me to develop deep connections and create safe spaces for people to get the support they need.”
As our student Jocelyn reflected on her time with us, she shared, “I feel deeply privileged to walk alongside people in some of their most vulnerable moments. It is an honour to help create spaces where individuals and families can mourn, celebrate, reflect, and continue living fully—even at the end of life.”
Sylwia, our Bereavement Coordinator, reflects, “I bear witness to people’s pain while normalizing their experience and reminding them that mourning is a natural, necessary, and authentic response to loss and suffering. While grief never truly ends, it can evolve in a way that allows people to live well again. Witnessing these shifts in someone’s grief journey is what makes this work such a true honour.”
Thank you to our Social Workers!
