Joan knew nothing about hospice care, or Lisaard & Innisfree, when her husband – Jack – came into our care.
When we first met her, she was tired and anxious about the future. On Christmas Eve, when many families are celebrating the season, the love of Joan’s life was struggling with his illness. She knew Jack’s health was declining, and she made the decision to move him to Innisfree House. With smiles and gentle reassurance, staff at Innisfree stepped in to personalize care for all of Jack’s needs, relieving Joan of her caregiver role and allowing her to be his wonderful wife.
It had been a very long time since she and Jack could simply be together, and they spent his final hours holding hands and singing their favourite hymns.
