Through one of our bereavement programs, Hearts in Harmony Choir, we offer a gentle, welcoming space where people experiencing grief can come together through music. Celebrating the one year anniversary of the Choir on October 8th, we welcome anyone who has experienced a loss at Lisaard & Innisfree Hospice to participate alongside others who have experienced a similar loss. With our Music Therapist, Meghan, leading the choir, we create room for people to remember, express themselves, and feel supported in ways that words alone may not always allow.

We see Hearts in Harmony as more than a choir; it is a place for connection, comfort, and support. Some participants have told us they felt apprehensive about signing up because they worried about fitting in. One person felt uncertain about joining a new group, while another did not consider themselves a strong singer, even though they loved to sing. We were encouraged to hear those worries soon eased.
Participants have described our group as kind and supportive, and Meghan as reassuring, open-hearted, and welcoming. As one participant reflected, “Sometimes it’s hard to find words, I feel like songs, lyrics can speak when I can’t.”

“I find it inspiring to see others opening up. We have a lot of fun, and new friendships have been formed.”
We have heard participants describe feeling joyful during choir and peaceful afterward. One participant shared, “It has been good to feel joy, even amongst the feelings of grief. The choir has been a reminder that joy and hope are still possible.” Through Hearts in Harmony, we are reminded that moments of lightness, friendship, and hope can still be part of the healing journey.
We meet weekly at Innisfree, where we welcome every voice and never require singing experience. Together, we share meaningful favourites, including “The Rose”, as we build confidence, connection, and community. Through every song and connection, we remind one another that no one has to journey through grief alone.
