The annual Hearts for Hospice Gala took place Saturday, February 9th and raised an amazing $112,000 to support Lisaard and Innisfree Hospice.
Presented by Mercedes Benz Kitchener Waterloo Region, the Gala saw support from a wide breadth of local businesses and individuals. In addition to live and silent auctions, the Hearts for Hospice Gala included a heartfelt “Fund a Need” appeal, where guests had the opportunity to directly donate towards our Legacy Garden Project at Innisfree House. The Fund a Need appeal raised over $27,000, surpassing our goal of $20,000 thanks to the generosity of everyone who attended.
Every single dollar raised stays locally and is directed to Lisaard House and Innisfree House. “We rely heavily on our community and are so thankful for their tremendous support,” said Kim Henry, Director of Development. “Events like this are essential to help maintain our homes and the very important services they provide for our community.”
It may surprise you to learn that out of every $1 we spend, we must raise $0.53 from the local community. The Government funds the remaining $0.47, so annual fundraisers such as the Hearts for Hospice Gala and the Hike for Hospice are extremely important to ensuring that we are able to provide exceptional care to residents and their families in our community.
Lisaard and Innisfree Hospice is Waterloo Region’s only residential hospice. We provide exceptional palliative care to residents while supporting them and their families through the end-of-life journey, and we do so at no direct cost to them.
We offer a home-like setting where people can be surrounded by their loved ones and live their final days in peace and comfort, free from pain. Although people come to Lisaard and Innisfree Hospice because they are dying, we focus on living, offering comfort, care and closure.
“Making Moments Matter” is our commitment to our residents and their families. We do this by providing exceptional care and compassion.

During the ‘giving season’ we are reminded of those who are in need. Waterloo Region is a giving community. Some give in remembrance, while others give to organizations they have had personal experience with.
We give because there is need. We give because it feels good, to be role models to our children. We give because someday we may find ourselves in need.
There is no wrong reason to give.
