Message from Chair

Our motto at Lisaard and Innisfree Hospice is to ‘Make Moments Matter.’ Each person matters for every moment of their life, and hospice care maintains this idea by ensuring each person lives as well as they can for as long as they can.

Lisaard and Innisfree Hospice is a leading charity for people living with a life-limiting illness. Everything we do, from expert care to emotional and spiritual support and practical guidance, helps them, and the people who love them, make the most of the time they have together. For our residents and their families, every day is precious. Whether it is for one day or several weeks, the time residents spend at the hospice is cherished by their families and loved ones.

Through our nursing skills, specialist support services, medical expertise and volunteers, our care encompasses the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of our residents. This holistic approach to care also supports family members and others close to the resident who is receiving palliative care. This support is offered during a resident’s illness and into bereavement. It is gratifying to see the high-quality of our staff and volunteers who ensure that our resident’s needs are properly taken care of.

We accomplished significant milestones in the last 18 years; we continue to look at new ways to innovate our services for the benefit of our residents. This year we have further built on the therapeutic activities provided to the residents, including significant improvements to our services, so we can deliver a more comprehensive care to those with the greatest need. Since joining the Board of Directors, I have been extremely impressed by the knowledge of our staff and volunteers of terminal illnesses and palliative care, but even more by their unswerving commitment to helping and supporting our residents and their families through a most difficult period.

You will always find a warm and sunny smile at the hospices. Our staff recognize the challenges that face residents with a life-limiting disease and are always there to brighten their days.

Contrary to popular belief, the hospice is not a sad place, but a place with a happy atmosphere – it’s about making each day the best it can be for our residents and their families, helping them to make the most of their time left, whether this is weeks, or their precious last days.

“No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.” – Aesop

This quote is for our supporters; without them, we could not continue to provide our vital care to the community. No matter how you support us, whether it is attending our events, volunteering your time, or making a donation, your support makes such a difference and means that we can continue to be there for hundreds of residents and carers across the region who do, and will in the future, need our care. Thanks to people like you, who fund our work and make what we do possible, we are able to continue to advocate for the improvements necessary to make end of life care work for everyone.

In this report you will see how together with you, our supporters, and the people we help, we are doing all we can to ensure everyone gets the care and support they deserve when they are dying.
